I made it to the gym and did squats and deadlifts and dips and overhead presses and good mornings and bench presses.
And I managed to have a shoulder wobble while racking the bench press bar, get one end racked and not the other, end up stuck awkwardly under the bar, and accept a rescue without DYING OF HUMILIATION. Which I'm counting as a victory *g*.
And I saw another woman in the free weights room!!! And she was AWESOME and doing Olympic lifts! \o/
I continued doing 2 sets of 8 reps each of my various machines and free weight exercises (I'd been doing 10 reps, and I'm not sure why that started to overtire my body, but it did, so I adjusted downward) but added back in 2 machines I'd taken out (due to just not having the energy -- around the same time I'd moved from 10 reps to 8), which felt good.
I also signed up for an intro kettlebells clinic :) (Wed. Aug. 18)
I've still been focusing on core strength, although I just did a set of lunges. I did manage two 60-second elbow planks both today and yesterday. Today's second was way shakier than yesterday's (in part because I kept feeling one arm slipping), and really kicked my ass. Still, I did it!
I did planks for the first time at the gym yesterday and oh good grief they're hard! I managed about 10 seconds, so am very impressed by 60 secs. Go you.
I have given my shoulder the week off, so no upper body work :-(
Instead: planks, back extensions, vertical leg crunches for the abs, and basic bodyweight squats. Did two 60 second planks and back extensions, next step is three at 45 seconds each: Success with back extensions, not yet with planks (missing 10 seconds on the third, drat!). Two sets of twenty crunches and full-range squats.
Just started in a crossfit gym almost 2 months ago so each workouts different, but I did go three times this week.
This morning we did a routine with cleans, thrusters, something I can't remember the name of, and pull ups. They've got big bands you can step on to assist with the pullups. I'm on the biggest one they have and I couldn't finish all the assigned reps in the full workout, but I know it's going to take time to improve on those.
I had a bit of an off week, thanks to work pressure and feeling crummy early in the week. I was able to use my adjustable dumbbells at home to do most of my normal routine, and I was able to make it into the gym yesterday and push myself hard.
Still doing NRoL4W and enjoying it very much. I'm up to 2 minutes on planks, and 50 lbs on incline bench press. I also did dumbbell snatches (my favorite), barbell rows, stiff-legged deadlifts, some truly evil squat variations, and a boatload of bodyweight squats and lunges.
No Crossfit! Cue sad panda face. Did a modified body-weight workout and my tricep pushups are getting better, so there's that. Lots of running, huzzah.
Also for some reason, have been getting epic cramps this month. Those of you who possess organs of the menstrual-ly type: how the hell do you deal with bad cramps that actually physically incapacitate you other than downing half a bottle of Advil? I'm sick of keeling over in the middle of a workout if I don't take painkillers in time.
When my cramps were really vicious, mefenamic acid used to be the only thing that worked.
Since I exited my teens and things improved: ginger tea, abdominal massage, switching to a menstrual cup (some people find they improve cramps a lot, for unknown reasons; a few people find they worsen them), and some specific yoga stretches (chiefly baddha konasana, cobra, danurasana, and quadricep stretches) have all seemed helpful, though it's obviously hard to identify causality when I've simultaneously been getting older and my body's been settling down.

\o/ It sounds like that's really improved fast -- I think last week you were on 30 seconds for the second plank, right?

Love the Crossfit variety and the intensity.
