ow, my knee

After working for over a year to slowly build strength enough that I can do squats, deadlifts and lunges again, I woke up this morning with a nasty, unrelenting pain behind my left kneecap that will NOT go away. It's possibly related to my shoes--I've been not wearing my newer "athletic" orthotics because they were making my toes hurt. Then ALL of my shoes--street shoes included--started making my toes hurt and the only thing that didn't hurt was going barefoot. I am not a 5-fingers person and will not start being one any time soon; I have extremely flexible, wide, flat feet and that's what the orthotics are for. I started wearing my rigid non-gym orthotics in the one pair of street shoes that will accommodate them, all day Thursday, all day Friday, and all day yesterday when I was out of the house (about half the day). I wore my fancy gym orthotics in my running shoes when I worked out (elliptical, rower, recumbent bike since I was planning to lift the next day) Friday. Yesterday I was too busy to go to the gym at all.
Holy buckets, this hurts, and I've done nothing to bring it on! do I have to go back to never lifting with legs/hips/butt again? GRRR.
I have an appointment with the podiatrist Tuesday, but I don't have a lot of hope. And I can't take any more ibuprofen. I've taken a lot over the years for the chronic headaches I had (weekly or more for 5 years) and I save ibuprofen for the worst headaches, nothing else. I'm just limping and taking Tylenol.
Ice made it ache 10x worse. :(
