Today I spent an hour at the gym talking to an exercise physiologist and learning how to do this lifting-heavy-things shit right. He had me working with what is apparently called a resistance band or an exercise band, looks like this thing:

(And after forty-five minutes of that my day's supply of spoons ran away laughing, but that's sort of the point, right?)
I asked Mr. W which exercise band I should buy, and he said "the purple one". Yeah, real helpful, Mr. W, I can see the one I was working with is purple, that doesn't help at all if I'm looking at a brand where 'purple' means 'heavy'. So I turn to the all-knowing Internets. I've been hitting up Google, and I assume I want to start with a light one, not extra-light or medium and certainly not heavy, but some sites are recommending getting three different ones: opinions? How and how much does length matter? Any recommended brands? And anything else y'all think might be helpful.
