Personal First!

I DID A TURKISH GET-UP, Y'ALL.

I balanced a paperback book on my hand (thank you Rydra_wong for that suggestion!) and DID A TURKISH GET-UP. Once on the right side, once on the left side.

The left side, erm, needs work. I had to lean on a coffeetable to get all the way up. But the right side, I did the right side ALL ON MY OWN.

Didn't drop the book. Got all the way up and down.

FIRST EVER.

NICE! I did them for the first time a few weeks ago - with an 8 kg kettleball. And I totally hear you on the uneven side problem. My right was fine, my left was ridiculous.

So awesome you did it! And the book is a really good idea, especially for forcing proper form.

ROCK THE FUCK ON. \o/

Asymmetry seems pretty common; I'm definitely weaker with left-sided TGUs too.

Go you!!

New exercise to me, and wow, that looks like an awesome but tricky thing to try, reading the description here: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/turkish_get_up_training.htm

Speaking as this comm's resident Turkish get-up evangelist: it is an awesome, awesome exercise.

It does wonderful things for shoulder mobility/stability (which I especially appreciate as I'm a climber), but it also works pretty much every muscle in your body on the way. And it works balance and concentration, too.

Handy video that breaks it down into separate movements and drills them individually:

Ooo, thanks for that video! Breaking it down into separate movements is just the ticket, so I can figure out how to do this properly.
