is that really my back?

So, I have to play a holiday concert and I have to attend two holiday parties. None of these are formal events, but still I have nothing festive to wear. I went to the mall tonight, got a bunch of sparkly, shiny clothes and took them to the fitting room. The fitting room has 3-way mirrors, which of course I don't have access to at home, so my first thought was wow, how will I make it through growing my hair out if it looks that bad in the back? But I decided to just try on the clothes anyway and pretend that was someone else's hair. So I took off my shirt, and when I looked up I saw my back in the mirror.

OH MY GOD, IS THAT MY BACK?

I mean, I don't look like a fitness model. But for someone well over 40 who sits in an office chair all day, I have a great-looking back. It does NOT look like it did last time I really saw it, which was in a photograph my son took so he'd know how to put kinesio tape on me. If I flex even a tiny bit, I can see all KINDS of things whereas before it was just kind of eh, whatever. I wasn't fat but I wasn't fit either, I was just whatever.

I'm pretty sore in my back and ribs from the past couple of workouts. At least now I know it's working. My goal is to get stronger, but if I grow some visible muscle too I'm sure not going to complain.

I had a similar experience just last week after about 2 weeks of core training.

Those moments are just awesome. One of those a year or so ago, when I simply lifted my arm to brush my teeth while wearing a sleeveless shirt and consequently went "...WHOA." at the bathroom mirror, was my inspiration to keep working out my shoulders after I quit the job that involved heavy lifting. =)
