You can do a bunch of stuff with the rice bucket -- this article's annoyingly cheesy, but gives various ideas:

It definitely seems good for working extensor muscles (stick your hand deep in the bucket, then try to open it against the weight of rice) and as a general wrist/hand/finger warm-up before fingerboarding.
